Snakes don't choose homes at random. They're drawn by specific conditions: prey availability, shelter, warmth, and accessible entry points. A home with a mouse problem, a crawlspace with open vents, a wood pile against the foundation, and dense ground cover along the perimeter is an attractive destination for snakes. Remove those conditions and you remove most of the risk.

Why snake proofing works when repellents don't.
Snake repellents — sprays, granules, ultrasonic devices — have no meaningful effect on snake behavior. No product currently on the market has demonstrated reliable efficacy in controlled studies, and the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency does not recommend any chemical repellent for snake control. Physical exclusion works because it addresses the actual mechanism: snakes can't enter a space they can't access. Habitat modification works because it removes the conditions that make your property worth visiting. These are the only approaches with a real track record.
Common questions about snake proofing.
Can a home be completely snake-proofed?
A home can be made extremely resistant to snake entry and significantly less attractive to snakes. 'Complete' is a high bar — a determined snake can find gaps that aren't obvious, and no property is entirely free of conditions that might attract one. What we can do is address every identifiable entry point and contributing condition, which eliminates the vast majority of snake encounters.
How long does snake proofing take?
The inspection typically takes 1–2 hours depending on property size. Foundation exclusion work is usually completed in the same visit. More extensive work — deck exclusion, perimeter fencing — is scheduled based on scope. We'll give you a realistic timeline after the inspection.
Do I need to be home during the service?
For the initial inspection, yes — we'll want to walk the property with you and discuss what we find. For exclusion work that's limited to the exterior, we can often complete it without you present once the scope is agreed on.
How is snake proofing different from a one-time removal?
Removal addresses the snake that's there now. Snake proofing addresses why it was there and how it got in — and prevents the next one. For properties with a history of snake activity, or for homeowners who want lasting peace of mind rather than a reactive response, proofing is the right approach.
What time of year is best for snake proofing?
Fall and winter are ideal — snakes are less active, which makes the inspection easier, and sealing entry points before spring activity begins gives you the best protection going into the active season. That said, snake proofing is worth doing any time of year. We perform it year-round.
